Heretaunga Intermediate offers a wide variety of different sports. Many children take advantage of the opportunity to participate in a team sport during the weekend or after school. Some of the sports include:

• Orienteering • Cross Country • Gymnastics • Cricket • Touch • Canoe Polo • Softball 
• Athletics

 

SUPER SIX SHIELD
The six Hawkes Bay intermediates compete regularly for this shield. Schools pick their best teams in each code and that team competes in a full day’s competition.
These sports include:

 

• Rugby • Soccer • Cross country • Athletics • Hockey 
• Volleyball • Basketball • Softball • Netball

 

SYNDICATE SHIELD
The school is split into four syndicates - Kauri, Rimu, Tawa and Rata. Each syndicate competes for a shield in individual sporting codes and for the overall Syndicate shield which is awarded at the end of the year. Points are given out for assemblies, sports and academic areas. The students are very proud of their syndicate and always work hard at winning the shield - there is always great competition.

 

OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Students are provided with various outdoor challenges throughout their two year stay at Heretaunga Intermediate. These include a syndicate camp every second year.

 

SPORTS ACADEMY
Selected students are part of an indepth sports programme to extend their sporting abilities in a variety of sports with professionals in the different codes.
